Learn Celebrity Fitness Trainer Hollywood Hino’s simple secret for Flashbulb Ready Abs, why boxing is 2015’s group fitness phenomenon, and more.

BOXING has made it’s return to the fitness arena, but this time wearing Nike Forever Gradient Leggings, a fierce sports bra, and the title of superior stress-buster, ultra-fast calorie shredder, and the fastest growing group fitness modality amongst millennial women.
Hear what former Pro Boxer turned Celebrity Fitness Trainer, Hollywood Hino had to say about getting you and his celebrity clients, Flashbulb Ready Abs, why boxing is 2015’s newest group fitness knockout amongst women, some of his clean eating choices, love the second time around, his personal choice of music (you’ll never guess), who you should be following on Instagram, and his nominees for Gotham Bandit of The Year.
Q: HOLLYWOOD, YOU HAVE A GROWING LIST OF CELEBRITY CLIENTS- KELLY ROWLAND, ANSEL ELGORT, CARMELO AND LALA ANTHONY TO NAME A FEW. SUMMARIZE ONE OF YOUR CELEBRITY TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR US.
A: My training approach is tailored to each clients’ individual needs, whether they are getting ready for their next major motion picture role, a red carpet MOMENT (and by that I mean MOMENT), book launch or if they are just trying to reach the same kind of fitness goals their fans are looking to achieve.
Something our celebrity clients and students love is that I can give you abs like you wouldn’t believe by taking simple moves and making them far from basic and incredibly challenging.
Take lower leg ab circles for example. I like to kick that up a few notches by having clients work with a partner instead of doing it solo. That’s what I call,
FLASHBULB READY ABS
1. Clients lay on their back with their feet facing each other (basically mirroring one another), lifting their legs at a 45 degree angle with their abs engaged, lower back toward the floor and heads lifted off the ground.
2. Then I have them begin to circle their legs clockwise around each other for 30 second splits. You can’t stop because you will trip your partner up or start kicking each other.
3. Then you reverse the move counter clockwise.
My clients at BFX Studio are really into crushing the abs this way. If you are inspired by Kelly Rowland, Carmelo or LaLa Anthony, we can help you achieve similar goals.
Q: YOUR BFX FIDI STUDIO BOX & STRENGTH CLASS IS A RAINMAKER, IN TERMS OF SWEAT. IN THE CLASS I TOOK, THE MAJORITY WERE YOUNG WOMEN AND FROM A SHOW OF HANDS, MOST OF THEM HAVE LACED UP THE GLOVES BEFORE. SHED SOME LIGHT ON WHY YOUR CLASS, AND BOXING IN GENERAL, HAS BECOME POPULAR AMONGST YOUNG WOMEN?
A: Everyone loves the way it feels to hit something. It’s a great stress reliever. I’ve seen my athletes at BFX Studio really begin to realize the muscle building benefits of boxing. You can achieve a long sleek upper body as opposed to building bulk. That’s why so many A-List celebrities, models and athletes are throwing on wraps for boxing workouts. Boxing also strengthens the legs and core. It’s also a great, intense HIIT workout of course both in terms of intensity and landing a few punches.
Q: BOXING IS OBVIOUSLY YOUR FIRST LOVE AND IF I WERE TO GUESS, FITNESS IS A CLOSE SECOND. SO, HOW IMPORTANT IS NUTRITION TO YOU?
A: You can’t out-train a bad diet. Nutrition is key for results and, more importantly, for overall happiness. I like working with Vanessa Cunningham of Unhealthy No More. She’s a nutritionist who does consultations with several of my private clients. You can find her at unhealthynomore.com and @unhealthynomore on Instagram.
Q: KANYE WEST AND KIM KARDASHIAN WERE SEEN ON A DINNER DATE AT ABC KITCHEN AKA “ALWAYS BURSTING w/CELEBRITIES”. WHAT HEALTHY RESTAURANTS AND/OR MEALS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO A CLIENT?
A: There are healthy choices at almost all restaurants for the most part. Delicatessen is one of my personal favorites. Although they are known for Chef Michael Ferraro’s varieties of Mac and Cheese, there are also options like the tuna tartare and kale salad. If I can’t find a great option on the menu, that’s what I’ll go for. I also like island-based cuisine. A lot of people mistake that for being unhealthy, but focusing on chips, fried island foods and creamy drinks is the wrong way to go. You can find some of the freshest vegetables and fruits ever with island cuisine. That’s why you just might find me in St. Maarten on the occasional weekend.
Q: KIND SNACKS PROMOTES THEIR FOODS AS THE “NIRVANA OF HEALTHFUL TASTINESS”, BUT WAS RECENTLY CALLED OUT BY THE FDA FOR MISLABELING BARS THAT EXCEEDED 1g OF SATURATED FAT AS “HEALTHY”; ALTHOUGH THE FAT MAY BE ATTRIBUTED TO HEALTHY NUTS, AS A HARVARD NUTRITION EXPERT EXPLAINED TO SELF MAGAZINE. WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED “NIRVANA OF HEALTHFUL TASTINESS”?
A: A green juice or healthy smoothie is my way to go. They are easy to get in NYC because there are so many fresh juice and smoothie options from boutique juice bars to some food carts. Just make sure there are no added syrups or sugars. At BFX Studio, they carry Lulitonix. My personal favorite is their “Rejuvelixir” labeled “Black Magic”. I also like “The Best Bar Ever”. That’s a really awesome and unusually delicious protein bar made by a friend of one of my clients. You can find more on “The Best Bar Ever” at bestbarever.com and @thebestbarever on Instagram.
Q: BOUTIQUE FITNESS STUDIOS ARE POPPING UP IN EVERY MAJOR CITY AROUND THE WORLD. MOST METHODS APPEAR TO BE SOLID, BUT HOW CAN WE BE SURE. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH SOMEONE NARROWING DOWN THEIR CHOICES?
A: The best fitness program is something you will stick with…so it needs to be both challenging and fun. Do what you like. Exercise shouldn’t be a chore. That’s another reason, in addition to Hollywood Hino Training Camp and Church Street Boxing Gym, I signed on with BFX Studio. It’s the next step of boutique fitness. With so many boutique fitness studio options there sometimes isn’t a lot of oversight. At BFX Studio you know you are getting quality workouts under one roof. It takes it to a different level because you are getting more than one training modality. This way you can find Box & Strength along with hybrid spin and HIIT classes, and strength and cardio classes known as BFX Build and BFX Burn. It’s a true boutique cross-training destination. I like being a part of doing things that haven’t been done, and building on that where there is real credibility and oversight. That’s what students should be looking for.
Q: WHAT’S THE RAWKUS PLAYING IN YOUR EARS WHEN YOU WORKOUT?
A: I listen to a lot of different music, but Rock and Old School R&B/Soul, like Elton John and Sam Cooke, are my favorites.
Q: FROM WHERE YOU SIT, WHO IS MOVING FITNESS LIFESTYLE FORWARD ON INSTAGRAM?
A: Nike has a great presence backed by a running and group training program here in NYC. Massy Arias, known as Mankofit, has really changed lives as a lot of people have followed her and gotten in serious shape. I’ve seen Instagram as a key mechanism to be able to interact with clients, students and fans and people around the world inspired by what I do and boxing. It’s been an integral part of building a business, branding and promoting what it means to lead a fit lifestyle. I also get a huge kick out of following colleagues at BFXStudio and Church Street Boxing Gym.
Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?
A: Building my brand (#HollywoodHino Training Camp) and taking it global.
Q: MUHAMMAD ALI IS THE GREATEST GOTHAM BANDIT OF ALL TIME. HE LIVES FOR LIFE, NOT JUST LIVING. HE INSPIRED GENERATIONS. FITNESS, WEALTH, AND STYLE ARE HARDWIRED INTO HIS DNA. FOR THE GOTHAM BANDIT OF THE YEAR AWARD, WHO ARE YOUR TOP THREE NOMINEES?
A: Beyoncé, Floyd Mayweather, and Kobe Bryant
